A cheat code discovered 28 years late works on Switch!

This game hid a multiplayer mode that a player just discovered by pure chance while testing cheat codes.

Super Smash Bros players are all familiar with Little Mac, the super-powered uppercut boxing fighter. What some may not know is that he got his start in an arcade game called Punch Out!! re-released a few years later on the NES. This excellent title will have had the right to a 32-bit sequel on Super Nintendo simply titled Super Punch Out!!. Today it is about this sequel that just revealed some secrets 28 years after its original release.

A Twitter user by the name of @new_cheats_news discovered two new key combinations to access previously undiscovered features. Nintendo’s boxing game contained many secrets since these new cheat codes give access to two game modes buried until now. And good news for Switch players: it is possible to try it from the Nintendo Online version of the title !

A secret versus fighter

While two cheat codes were known so far for the 1984 SNES title, this lucky gamer managed to uncover two more. Lucky you or good judgment, the user explains that the codes in this game use combinations of two keys. This then greatly facilitates the chances of discovering new secrets and probably explains this sudden discovery.

The first code gives easy access to all single player matches in the game. Likely implemented for debugging purposes, this code now allows players to play any fight they want without having to go through the entire game. the most surprising “novelty” remains the second code that allows you to start a multiplayer game ! And yes, it took 28 years for Super Punch Out!! become a versus fighter.

Small additional charm: as this code gives player 2 full control of a (normally) non-playable character, it is possible to launch the special moves of the enemies of the game for even more fun! If you want to try your hand at these phenomenal codes, here’s how:

  • Each of the combinations must be performed from the controller of player 2 and player 1 takes care of pressing A or Start.
  • On the title screen, hold Y+R and press A to open the free matches menu
  • On the free matches menu, holding B+Y and pressing A allows player 2 to control the computer character.
